Ceremony Procedures

Arrival of graduates and guests

We request that final-year students and graduates arrive an hour and a half before the beginning of the ceremony, so that there’s enough time for:

  • the distribution of academic gowns and mortarboards, loaned to students by HEC Montréal;
  • arranging students in rows for the graduation procession, according to the order that they’ll go on stage;
  • and directions regarding the sequence of ceremony events.

Be punctual, and don’t forget your graduation ticket.

We request that guests arrive 45 minutes before the beginning of the ceremony with their tickets in hand. Please note that access to the room where the ceremony will be held is restricted to people with guest tickets. Those without tickets will be turned away. If you forget or lose your ticket, see the FAQ.

Please note that, for logistical reasons, graduates will not be sitting with their guests during the ceremony.

Guests will receive a souvenir program upon entrance. Final-year students and graduates will receive one when they return their caps and gowns.

Ceremony

Graduates and final-year students will enter in a procession, followed by the honour procession.

After the speech and special mentions, students will be called to the stage.

Final-year students and graduates will sit according to the order they’ll go on stage. For the distribution of congratulatory letters, they will be asked to stand row by row, following the directions from School personnel.

Before going on stage, School personnel will verify that the students are in the right order.

The graduates will be invited to collect their congratulatory letter. While they are on stage, a photo will be shot. After graduates collect their letter, they will return to their seats in the auditorium.

Reception

The ceremony will be followed by a reception, served in the lobby. During this time, final-year students and graduates will be asked to return their gowns to the changing rooms. Please note that you will be charged if your gown is not returned.

Photographs

Because of the size and layout of the room, guests are not permitted to move around to take photos or film the event from the proscenium. The School has retained the services of a professional photographer who will sell a set of photographs after the ceremony. Details will be sent out at a later date.

DVDs

The ceremony will also be filmed and DVDs will be available for purchase. When you register for the ceremony, you will be given the opportunity to order a DVD. It will be mailed to the address indicated on your registration form after the ceremony.
